3D Printing directly onto a glass bed

When I assembled by 3D printer from RepRapPro it came with a reel of Kapton tape. This is a clear smooth tape that the plastic printing material sticks to well. It is very difficult to stick the tape to the glass bed without getting bubbles, gaps or overlaps. Gaps and overlaps were creating nasty lines in the bottom of my 3D prints.

I am talking about the parallel lines that are about 1inch apart. Not the close diagonal lines which is a different issue. Click or tap the images to enlarge.

So I thought I would have a go at printing directly onto the glass bed, as some people had some success in doing this. I found that if I cleaned the bed with acetone (I use cheap nail polish remover) then heated the bed to around 56 deg C the PLA sticks really well. Now all my prints come out without those nasty tape lines.

If you can, I would defiantly recommend printing directly onto a heater glass bed when using PLA in your 3D printer.
